Canterbury Cricket Association Award Winners, 2007/08

The Canterbury Cricket Association 2007/08 Club and Representative Awards ceremony was held at the Aurora Centre at Burnside High School on Tuesday, April 15.

St Albans collected four grade-winning trophies and had a number of club members picking up individual awards on the night.

Club awards:

John Cowens Award
[ awarded to the under-20 batsman in men's club cricket who scored the most runs in the Premier two-day and one-day competitions ]

Winner:
James O'Gorman

> He scored 419 runs at an average of 26.18.


Zena Hocking Cup
[ awarded for taking the most wicket-keeping dismissals in women's Premier one-day and Twenty20 competitions ]

Winner:
Rowan Milburn

> She effected 13 dismissals (all caught).


Chattel Hayes Memorial Trophy
[ awarded to the wicket-keeper making the most dismissals in the men's Premier two-day Trophy competition ]

Winner:
Aaron Johnstone

> He effected 28 dismissals (24 catches, 4 stumpings) and it is his second trophy win in a row and fourth in six years.



Representative awards:

Junior Batting Trophy:
[ this award is for the Canterbury batsman who scored the most runs at the Under-19 National Tournament ]

Winner:
James O'Gorman

> He scored 281 runs during the tournament.


Christchurch Casino State Canterbury Magician Most Outstanding Performance:

Winner:
Helen Watson

> She almost flew home with illness before the game but showed how tough she is by playing on regardless. She scored 42 off 35 balls and took 5-18 off 10 overs in a match-winning performance against Otago in Invercargill.
